Privacy Policy

Docamatic is a Chrome extension that lets you add sticky notes to webpages. This policy explains what the extension does with your information. In short: your notes stay on your computer. We collect usage statistics and error reports to understand how the extension is used and keep it working, and you can turn the usage statistics off.

Your notes

Everything you write in Docamatic (note text, titles, tags, colors and positions) and the address of the page each note belongs to (including the full address it was created on, with any passwords, tokens or other credentials removed) is stored only in your browser, using Chrome's extension storage on your device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else.

To show your notes, the extension checks the address of the page you are on and compares it with the pages you have notes on. This happens entirely inside your browser.

Uninstalling the extension deletes your notes from your browser.

Usage statistics

To understand how many people use Docamatic and which features are used, the extension sends usage events to PostHog, an analytics service. These events include:

Each event is tied to a random ID created when the extension is installed. It is not linked to your name, email or Google account. Usage events never include your note text, the addresses or names of websites you visit, or your browsing history.

Turning it off: open the Docamatic popup, go to Settings and uncheck "Share usage statistics". No usage events are sent after that.

Error reports

When something goes wrong in the extension, an error report is sent to Sentry, an error monitoring service, so the problem can be found and fixed. A report includes the error message and where in the extension's code it happened, the extension version, your browser and operating system version, and the names of recent actions inside the extension (such as "note added"). If the error happened on a webpage, the report includes that website's domain name (for example example.com), but never the full page address.

A report also includes which versions of the extension you have updated from, and, unless you turned usage statistics off, the same random ID used for usage events. If your saved notes can't be loaded, the report describes how they are stored (for example how many pages and notes there are and what format they are in) so the problem can be fixed, but never their contents or the pages they are on.

Error reports never include your note text. They are sent even when usage statistics are turned off, because they are needed to keep the extension working.

IP addresses

Like any request over the internet, sending usage events and error reports reveals your IP address to PostHog and Sentry, and both services store it with the event or report. It is used to estimate your approximate location (such as country and city) and to tell apart problems affecting different users. We don't use it to identify you or combine it with any other information about you.

What we don't do

When you uninstall

After you uninstall Docamatic, Chrome opens a short, optional feedback form hosted on Google Forms. Filling it in is entirely up to you; anything you submit is covered by Google's privacy policy.

This website

This website (not the extension) uses Google Analytics to count visits.
